Alaska continues to have an abundance of foster children and a shortage of foster parents. This week actress, dancer and former foster child Victoria Rowell is coming to Anchorage as part of her long standing advocacy for foster children.

Talk of the Nation with the political junkies Ken Rudin and Ron Elving will be back on KSKA Wednesday mornings from 10:00 a.m. - noon. Thank you for your emails letting me know how important NPR programming is to your Wednesdays.
The Infinite Mind on KSKA will continue. The producer of the program confirmed that even though they have been dealing with financial challenges, news of the demise of The Infinite Mind from the airwaves is premature. We look forward to new episodes of The Infinite Mind on KSKA in the future.
Running on KAKM, Channel 7 will be simulcast on KSKA August 18, 19 and 20. Candidates running for state house, state senate and U.S. House and U.S. senate will be heard on KSKA in August.

Dr. Woodard and his guests discuss epidemiology and how its being used to better understand and prevent drowning in Alaska. In an effort to decrease the substantial number of drowning deaths, Executive Director of the Alaska Marine Safety Education Association (AMSEA), Jerry Dzugan and local epidemiologist, Dr. Jennifer Lincoln share recent drowning-epidemiologic data. Learn about how they are using the data to recognize a problem, make suggestions on how to improve the problem, and data showing improvement in outcomes.

The Oscar Anderson House, Kimball’s store, the Anchorage Hotel, the Fourth Avenue Theater, the former Federal Building and U.S. Court House are all downtown survivors of the city’s past. Soon a new, old timer will join their ranks–the Alaska Railroad Freight Shed.
